Sweet BBQ Sauce
The other night I was in desperate need of BBQ sauce to complete our family dinner. I was making oven baked ribs with full intentions to share my recipe here in the blog (they were gobbled up too fast to take pictures to share this time around, looks like I’ll be making them again soon). I’m sure everyone will be happy about that 😉
To my dismay we were out of store-bought sauce and I didn’t have all the necessary ingredients to make my usual sweet BBQ sauce. I sure didn’t want to make another trip out to the store.
So, what would any multitasking homemaker and mom do? We improvise and throw together whatever we have on hand.
Thank goodness it was a hit with everyone, they even liked it better than my original homemade sauce 🙂
Sweet BBQ Sauce
- 1 1/2 cups Brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups ketchup
- 1/2 cup water (less if you want your sauce a little thicker)
- 1/2 cup red wine vinegar
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp A1 sauce
- 1/2 tsp black pepper or to your liking
Stir brown sugar and ketchup together, gradually add 1/4 cup of water (reserve remaining water). Stir together; it will still be lumpy.
Add red wine vinegar, Dijon mustard and A1 sauce; stir until brown sugar is mixed well and fully dissolved.
Stir in the remaining water, if you want it thicker don’t add all. Now add in your pepper to taste.
You can use this Sweet BBQ Sauce on just about anything.
How do you like your BBQ sauce? Do you find you make your old recipes a little better when you have to improvise?
