How did you go about naming your blog?
As I have roamed around the blogging community I have come across an enormous amount of different blogs. The very first thing that always catches my eye is the name of the blog. Each blog has their own niché and some have many nichés wrapped into one. Often times the name of a particular blog will say it all, you will know what that blog is about. Others leave me curious wanting to know more about the name or what went into creating it.
I can’t get over how diverse everyone’s blog names are. They range from the humorous, heartfelt, the oh so classy to the down right strange. I love them all, which has led me to wonder; what went into your decision-making process when you set out naming your blog.
Your blog name is like your little calling card. It says just a little about your blog or yourself before your readers dive into your posts or About Page. Nothing speaks more about you, your blog and what you want to get across to others then that very first impression; your blog name.
Since I’ve been wondering what went into naming your blog, I thought I’d tell you how I came up with mine.
I love my blog name, I feel it speaks about my life in 3 words. At times I’ve wondered if it were a little long, but I quickly remind myself what the name means to me.
I decided to start a blog after following a blogger for about a year. I read this wonderful woman’s stories about her and her family’s struggles through heartaches and through victories. What I noticed was she was able to have her corner of the web and say and do what came to her heart. She had an outlet to share her experiences while at the same time help others going through their own difficulties.
I had been seeing a therapist that wanted me to talk more about what was deep inside. She wanted me to no longer use avoidance as my cure-all. I felt a strong desire to open up, to write and express myself. I wanted to share my story. I haven’t fully done so, but I have briefly mentioned what has happened to our family. You can read some of our story if you’d like here.
While researching how to get things started I knew naming your blog was one of the most important decisions I would need to make. I went back and forth with so many options. One night I was lying quietly trying to fall asleep; I had so much racing through my head, I had this excitement about my new adventure.
As I was lying there I thought Heartbeats. I’m a mother to 7 wonderful children, their heartbeats are my heartbeats. I’m a nurse, the stethoscope is often the symbol of the medical field. My patient’s heart beat is one of the first assessments made and gives so much information for those caring for them.
Over the next couple days I pondered over other aspects of who I am and what I wanted to share. I have been blessed throughout my life and I will never forget or cease to be grateful for what I have been given. That said, I have endured many hardships and trauma. Not only have I lived through these life changing and at times horrifying moments; so have my children. To have witnessed the depths of pain my little ones have had to go through has been worse than my own pain.
I said to myself Heartbeats~ Soul Stains; it talks to me, it’s me. I knew it and I felt it. This would be my blog name. I decided I would share my life stories of being a wife, mother, nurse and a woman who has gone through a wide range of amazing ups with grace and some downs with courage I could have only gotten from God and those that have loved me unconditionally.
What process went into naming your blog? Were you able to come up with the perfect name without much effort, or was it a little harder for you? Do you love it or would you change anything about it?
