Our lives, living in controlled chaos. Raising kids & coping with tragedy
Disney’s The Lion King
Impressed is an understatement when it comes to how I felt walking out of the Broadway Production of Disney’s The Lion King.
Our family had the amazing chance to go and watch the award-winning theatrical production of The Lion King when it recently came on tour to Honolulu.
Weeks before going to this astonishing show I kept trying to visualize how on earth they would be able to recreate the tremendous innovation of an animated movie that captivated me over 20 years ago. How were they gonna bring these creatures to life in such a vivid way and still make it realistic?
It really seemed impossible for The Lion King to be depicted by people and still hold onto the characteristics that made this such a beloved show by my family and so many others for decades.
Let me tell you, the Broadway Theatrical Presentation of Disney’s The Lion King did not let me down. In fact, it blew me away. The spirit of this magnificent show grabbed a hold of me from the moment the doors were closed until days later. Frankly, I still can’t even get the enthusiasm I have for this production out of my mind. The artistry, talent and imagination of everyone involved in The Lion King is one of the most amazing things I have ever been privileged to see.
The way these characters came alive was a pure joy to watch. The humor and deep emotions were felt throughout the Blaisdell Concert Hall. The inventiveness of the costumes and sets had me forgetting these were humans and not the animals they were portraying. There were times it felt as if I was in Africa and not in a theater in Honolulu.
Every little detail of this production of The Lion King was absolute perfection. They were even able to bring some of Hawaii’s culture in to certain scenes which brought the crowd to loud cheers and laughs. No opportunity to capture and astound the audience was left untaken.
My usually complaining and unimpressed teenagers were fascinated, wide-eyed and wanting more. They were engrossed and mesmerized throughout the spectacular show. I knew my younger children would enjoy it. I was not prepared for seeing these sweet impressionable little ones awe-struck. My children’s giggles, delight and empathy through the entirety of the program is a memory I will never forget.
I highly recommend if the Broadway presentation of The Lion King tours near you that you don’t hesitate to go. You won’t be disappointed. What a breathtaking 2 1/2 hours to spend with the ones you cherish. I wish my youngest daughter was able to go, because of her young age she would not have lasted more than 15 minutes. Now we have an exciting excuse to watch it again if they come back on tour to Hawaii 😉
Culture and the arts are a valuable and lasting impact on our youth. We can never find too many occasions to share these life long learning opportunities. These moments with them will be forever in my memory bank.
