This is a sponsored post with Mums the Word Network and Amwell. All opinions are my own.
Being a nurse and mom of 7 you would think I would always be at the doctor’s office taking care of all of our needs…. Nope… I’m really bad about getting the kids into their pediatrician unless it seems life or death. Is this a good thing? No, not necessarily. Since I’m so crazy busy and the traffic getting to their pediatrician is quite cumbersome, I often will put things off until we have no choice but to go in. These moments often happen at night or on the weekend; the hospital or urgent care is an even more dreaded trip!
Help is out there for me and for you too! I can’t wait to share with you a great new health resource I’ve been introduced to and you’ll get the chance to try it for free too (code for free visit below)

When I started reading up about Amwell, I was very intrigued. I love telemedicine and have worked as a nurse in telehealth type of services. Being able to bring health care to those that can’t make it in to the doctor or patients that may not be seen at all since they don’t want to leave their home is invaluable.
Amwell gave me the opportunity to try out a free visit with them so I could find out more and really see what the whole process is. It just so happens my teenage daughter had been pretty sick the past couple weeks. Our pediatrician is a pretty far drive and it can be a LONG wait in the waiting room before we’re even seen. She’s a fabulous doctor and can be quite busy!!!!
I decided to use my Amwell visit to see if my daughter could get some relief from her constant coughing and other symptoms. I wasn’t sure how much help we could get and wondered if they would even provide services to a minor.
I went to the Amwell site and created my account. It was fast a simple. Next, I was asked if I was the patient being seen or another family member. I imputed my daughter’s information and we were ready to go. It was very quick to get set up and start the whole visit process.
Here we are with our accounts set up, now we’re ready for our visit. I absolutely love that you are able to choose your physician. You can read their bio and be seen by whom you choose. Amwell will let you know if you will need to “wait in the waiting room” before you are seen, if you will be seen right away or if the doctor you want is not in the office. This is great especially if you want to have continuity of care or find a doctor you really connect with.
I found a female doctor that I thought my daughter would like and that was available immediately; Dr. Stiles. We started my daughter’s visit and were brought to a screen to input whatever vital signs we had for her, her symptoms and complaints etc, what pharmacy we’d like to use if medication is needed, medical history and medication list. Within a minute we were in the visit with Dr. Stiles through our webcam.
The visit was perfect. The doctor spoke with me and then had my daughter sit in front of the computer to ask and assess what she thought might be going on with her. The visit was thorough and I thought even more “one on one” since there were no outside distractions. The doctor was completely focused on my daughter and getting to the bottom of her symptoms. I also felt my daughter, whom is very shy, was more open and at ease throughout the entire visit.
At the end of the visit my teenager was given a diagnosis, treatment plan and medication prescribed. Dr. Stiles was very personable and even though we were doing this visit online I felt we had a very in-depth visit and really great medical care. Amwell’s follow-up was great too. They sent messages through their website to see if we needed anything further. We actually forgot to ask for a school note for my daughter. They quickly got us a note and emailed it to me. It’s great to be able to login to my account and look up our previous visit information and notes. Everything is right there for us and easy to access. I’m thrilled.
From creating an account with Amwell to our local Longs calling to let us know our prescription was ready and waiting was about 1 hour. I am not kidding or exaggerating. This was fast, reliable and quality health care!!!! The cost of Amwell is $49 for almost all visits. They do take insurances that will cover telehealth and the list of insurance companies that do cover this type of visit is pretty long. For our family to go to the pediatrician costs $15 for the co-pay, about $10 in gas and $5 for parking. That’s $30, there are times where I know now I will pay the extra $20 to use Amwell instead of going into the doctor. With our busy schedules and me trying to be in so many places, for so many kids, I have trouble getting them to the doctor. I would much rather pay for them to get proper medical treatment then to let them go until it’s more convenient for me. With Amwell there is a solution that works great for me.
While Amwell is able to offer many services such as; medical, nutritional, psychology, primary care, therapy, dermatology, pediatrics and more, they do make it clear there are times where you must see a doctor or go to the hospital. Amwell is not designed to be there for emergency situations but they are set up to enhance your regular care or to get care to those that may not have health insurance (no doctors visit without health insurance is this reasonable), those that can’t make it in to be seen or have other hurdles in your way. My husband has a hectic work schedule and is unable to make it to be seen between 9am and 4pm. Amwell is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. This will be a nice service for us to utilize.
The lovely folks at Amwell would like to offer our readers a FREE visit 🙂 Yay! You can go in and have a visit for you or a family member at NO CHARGE by using the coupon code CARENOW4
I’m encouraged to see the advancement in health care resources and Amwell is definitely innovative and striving to bring quality care to everyone!!!!
