Can dinner be a time where you don’t make very good food choices? I often tend to a more comfort type food in the evening even though I know I need to lose a few pounds. What I’m trying to do is find more healthy dinner ideas to help lose weight.
If breakfast are for getting energy to function all-throughout the day, lunch for filling your stomach and getting nourishment, than dinner is all about relaxing the body and prepping it to rest. This is the reason why some people would eat big meals during breakfast, medium-sized dishes mostly filled with protein during lunch, and then light meals for dinner. It is already the end of the day, you do not want to stay up too late waiting for heavy food to digest properly. You would want to eat something light, maybe take a nightcap, and then off to bed.
Popular dinner ideas are salad, pasta, and the occasional few slices of pizza. These are easy to prepare, easy to eat, and easy to digest food we can eat daily. But for some people who are trying to lose weight for different kinds of reasons, dinner is one of the most crucial parts of the day. Because breakfast and lunch are pretty straight-forward in terms of food, dinner has to be particularly planned.
For anyone who is having a hard time creating a menu for dinner, we have listed a few suggestions you can tweak a bit with your twist. Here are dinner dishes you can eat if you are trying to lose weight.
Eat More Greens
Just like what our parents used to say, eating greens will make our body strong and healthy. Everyone’s favorite Caesar Salad can do the trick, but if you really want something that has lesser calories, you can choose dressings like olive oil or vinaigrette. Not only can salad cut your calorie intake, but it can also provide your body with fiber. Fiber is what you need to keep you satisfied for a long time and definitely helps with weight loss.
Focus on Lean Protein
There is a reason why people eat really big cut of steaks during lunch, it keeps you so satisfied for a very long time you would not even need an afternoon snack. You can still eat lean protein for dinner, although compared to lunch, it is going to be relatively smaller. Choose from beef, pork, chicken, or fish. You can even eat tofu and jazz it up a bit by making a special sauce for it. This will help prevent you from munching on food at midnight.
Grains will be your best friend
The latest craze today are grains, or what some would fondly call super grains because they function as a replacement for certain kinds of food like rice. You have probably already heard about some of them like quinoa, kamut, chia (which is actually a seed), and spelt. These will not just provide you with fibre, but also a whole range of nutrients that can help prevent certain illnesses. Find out which grain works for you, although the popular ones are quinoa and chia (which is usually mixed in Greek Yogurt dessert or drinks)
Steamed is always the way to go
To watch your oil intake, you can steam protein and vegetables. You can do steamed salmon on top of steamed vegetables like asparagus, carrots, and potatoes. Just rub salt and pepper on them so that they will still have taste, or you can use spices of your choice to make it more delicious.
Do not avoid carbohydrates
Some people think avoiding carbohydrates will make them lose weight faster, but like with everything else, forbidding yourself will make you crave for it even more. You can still eat carb-rich food but with a controlled helping so you can still get its benefits without losing control over your consumption. Remember, it’s all about balance.
For dessert, you can never go wrong with fruits. It has the sweetness you will probably crave after eating and it has nutrients that is good for your body. If there would be times when you cannot help but eat a midnight snack, just munch on fruit or yogurt.
