Our lives, living in controlled chaos. Raising kids & coping with tragedy
Happy Birthday Derek, Happy Birthday Dr. King!
Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday is observed today and it happens to be my son’s birthday as well. He was born on this Holiday 11 years ago.
Happy birthday Dr. King! You have given our country, our children and future generations an enormous hope for greatness, understanding and equality. You have taught us it’s not okay to sit and watch inequities, we must stand and demand more.
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” ~~~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
Happy birthday to my amazingly smart and tremendously handsome Derek 🙂 I’m sure every mom says that about her son, and we are allRIGHT!!!!! It’s astounding to me that no matter how old my children are, I can remember their birth so vividly on the their birthday. On this day I can’t help reflect on how much he has grown and how much more growing and maturing he still has left.
My children are growing so fast, I would love to have that little machine to stop time for just a bit. I know though, there is no greater joy then to see your children grow into the fabulous people they are meant to be.
For Derek I pray that his year is filled with wonderful adventures, never ending learning and for his deep compassion to never waiver.
“What greater aspiration and challenge are there for a mother than the hope of raising a great son or daughter?”~~~ Rose Kennedy
He is spending the day at his friends house, yes I’m a little sad. I miss the days where the kids were just with me, all day!!! This afternoon he will have baseball practice and will share pizza and cupcakes with his friends. What more could a boy ask for: baseball, pizza, cupcakes and friends 🙂
Do you have any special birthdays coming up? How did you spend Martin Luther King Jr. Day?
