What can you do when your child or someone close to you is deeply depressed? How do you pull them through and let them see how much they are loved and cherished?
I’ve shared some of my family’s struggles, especially those of my teenage daughter. She has been wrestling with depression and anxiety. Honestly, my kids and I have dealt with either depression, PTSD, anger or other coping issues. You can read more about some of what our family has gone through here at my About Page or the Scars on My Heart to get more insight to our tragedy.
Do you believe in Guardian Angels?
My sweet girl has had so much heartache and pain, she has quite frankly dug herself into a deep hole of sadness. There are times where I can see she feels hopeless. My darling girl has been in need of something, but everything we do doesn’t seem to be enough. At this point we can only pray and give her encouragement, just love her and let her know we are there for her.
The past few weeks have been even harder for my daughter. I have been at a complete loss as to what to do, her therapist has even been more concerned then usual.
About a week ago she started getting letters; anonymous letters. These letters are telling her how wonderful and perfect she is. How loved she is by “everybody”. They are saying very deep and meaningful things. These notes are genuinely talking to her heart, and are simply signed “Love, Your Guardian Angel“. My daughter said, it is as if this person can see into her heart.
There is no return address. We have asked everyone we can think of if it was them. Every reply is “No, but I wish I had thought of it”. The writing is not identifiable to anyone we know at all. I am touched beyond my own comprehension with the exact words being said to her and the timing of these much needed words of love.
We have been rendered clueless. All I know is, the selflessness of this Guardian Angel has given a hurting girl a lift in her spirit. She feels so touched and truly loved. The compassion has made her feel protected and cherished. As my daughter reads these letters she says the person can feel what she is feeling. She doesn’t feel so alone anymore.
These precious notes have gotten me thinking about a few things.
In this digital era we all live in I almost never send a handwritten letter or card. I have now been reminded of the power of the pen. The real sentiment an actual physical letter with words of inspiration can give someone. Sure she gets texts messages and calls from loved ones, she appreciates them dearly. These paper handwritten words from this Guardian Angel have an even greater impact. In this day and age to get a written letter is becoming all too rare. It’s a tangible reminder to her that she is loved, perfect and worthy!
My other thought, these acknowledgements from this Guardian Angel, is there a greater message here? Yes, I know an earthly being is reaching out to my daughter. What I’m pondering is; who is guiding this person to touch a hurting soul?
Is God speaking to this person to uplift her wounded spirit? Are her Guardian Angels in Heaven; her father and grandparents, tugging on the heartstrings of her earthly angel?
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Psalms 34:18
God knows our pain and what we need. He knows my daughter needed more than I was giving her. God and her Heavenly Angels are working here on Earth to guide her through this darkness. He will not leave her side, I know this.
There have been many times through my life where I question God and ask Him “why” or feel angry and blame Him. Every time this has happened something awe inspiring grabs a hold of me and says stop you are blessed and your family will be carried through this and come out stronger. When I feel God has forgotten us he clasps on to us and holds us even closer.
To you; whomever you are, my dear loving daughter’s Guardian Angel, thank you. May you know you have given hope to a girl needing it now more than ever. There are not enough words to say how humbled I am by your altruistic love for my child.
